About

I am a freelance science writer and clinical psychologist based in Portland, OR

My work ranges from writing magazine articles to developing critical thinking courses disguised as a quest for Bigfoot.  In recent articles, I’ve explored adolescent embarrassment, the link between disgust and morality, citizen science video games, and memory-boosting strategies.

In my former life as a psychology professor and child therapist I conducted research on personality, stress, and coping, taught college students, and helped children overcome emotional and behavioral problems.

Despite my academic background, I enjoy writing about topics with broad appeal, using words most people know. Favorite topics include behavior change, brain quirks, emotions, psychological disorders, child development, social psychology, and behavioral economics.
